OWH Sketch Challenge 131...and some kits...

We had two tramps plus one working on card kits for the big OWH event in Fogelsville, Pa. on Aug. 25th!  Talk about excitement!  lol
I skipped the kit making for the day (wore myself out a bit) and decided just to play around with today's sketch and see what I came up with.  My regular monthly box of cards to mail to Caro is really lacking and I feel so guilty!

 

Joanne has really been putting in a lot of overtime on her card kits......she's got a ton of them done!

I think it will be fun to see who grabs what kit.  What I like the best is that our kits are so different from each other.  Thanks for looking!   ~Nancy F.

OWH Sketch Challenge #129

It feels good to get back in the groove with the weekly challenges.  I love how this card came out.  I plan to make several to use at the upcoming card making party for Operation Write Home in August.  And now, my blogger friends, I need some help with ideas for card kits for the party.  So far, I've come up with a few.  These are the easier ones.

And then I thought I'd throw in some of these for people who like getting their fingers full of glue.

I need thoughts of how easy/hard to make the kits, how much "stuff" to have around for those who want to do their own thing and how do you figure out how many kits to have when you don't really have a firm head count?  Thanks for looking, and for reading this far....and for any suggestions you might have.  ~Nancy F.

OWH Sketch Challenge #128

The blog has been stagnant for a little while.  We've been in the midst of planning a card making day and have been preoccupied with making kits for the event. 

I sort of feel like I cheated on this one, but I just had to tear myself away from making kits before I went crazy......ooops, too late.

Our Daily Bread Challenge For OWH Postage Again!

This months challenge is to think “cool.”  And how awesome that Our Daily Bread will pay the postage for a box of cards to be shipped to our heroes!  I hope this card helps put us over the 25 cards we need to win the challenge.

OWH Sketch 122

After a bad night (see previous post), I didn't want to skip another Sunday sketch.  I already missed one last week!  Obviously, I wrote the measurements down wrong, oh well.  I used Stampin' Up paper and stamps from the awesome stash that Kim gave me and in person, the ribbon color is actually the same as the paper.    Thanks for looking!  ~Nancy F.

A Trip to Doggie ER

After a 1 a.m. trip to doggie ER last night, I made these for our nation's heroes.  I shouldn't be complaining about losing a little sleep considering what they go through.

Ozzy will be fine.  Infected and ruptured anal gland (ewwwwww!).  I need a nap!

Armed Forces Day!

I wanted to do something to thank our armed forces today, and in conjunction with Operation Write Home's blogskip with Stampers' Best, I used my Stampers' Best Statue of Libery stamp and made some hero cards.  I'll write notes to heroes in them and send them off to OWH in my next box of cards.

I used papers from a stack by K & Co. called Sleepy Tree.  The colors are a little non-traditional but really cute.  I hope to mail these cards off in time for the troops to receive them around July 4.

Rebellion!

Sherry's challenge is at  Bits of Cheer - make a card for a child using paper piecing.
One of my favorite cards to make are cards for kids.  I don't do a lot of paper piecing, but this particular stamp looked like it would be perfect for it.  And, I think it turned out a lot better than if I had just colored the clothing.

Carol, my neighbor, 20 miles to the South, decided we need to use something we've been hoarding............well, I hate to admit it.....I've been hoarding pink poodle brads.   Yes, it's awful, I know.  And I'm so embarrassed.  But look, Carol, I did  it!  And I used three, count 'em three! 

 

Lisa, at Stamping With A Mission, has asked for cards with food as the focus.  I don't know about you, but I always have olives in my fridge.

Yvonne at Penguin Papers is being rebellious by asking for cards using bright colors.  I guess this is her answer to the April Fool's day request for brown cards.  (Which I fell for, by the way......)

I threw away two kites before I managed to get one that I was happy with.  Who would think a simple looking kite could be such a problem?

This next challenge threw me for a loop, "use any five elements".  I ended up with this.

Buttons, twine, patterned paper, stamp and sentiment.  I'm not sure why I pulled out Christmas stuff, but the paper was awesome and so I used it for the next challenge too, which was to use a die cut.

Yeah, I know, more Christmas.....But maybe I'll be ready this year!
Next on the list was Sketch 120, where I also used a piece of paper that I've been hoarding.

Here's my blue and gray card for Allison.. (I'm partial to the Navy.)

OWH - Sketch 118

I used a new stamp that I purchased last weekend at the Heirloom Rubber Stamp Show.  It's from Nellies-Choice.  I  don't usually go for cutsie stuff, but as soon as I saw this stamp, I knew I wasn't going to walk away without it.  Must be my love of frogs.....

The plan this week is to use this sketch for at least another 6 cards.  I know I have a lot of larger stamps, so it
should work out well...

Operation Write Home - Stars & Stamps Blog - Sketch 115

Finally!  I can play along with the weekly sketches.  I made it my obsession at the start of 2012 to go through all the sketches and make one card, and to not stop until I was finished.  Let me tell you, by the time I had only a dozen or so sketches left to do, my work got sloppy and I was mostly just focused on being done.  So I'm not all that happy with the last few cards, but I'm overjoyed to be done and to be able to play along on a Sunday again.  Here's my first attempt at this week's sketch.  I had several Snoopy's already colored, so I consider this a slight cheat.  But I don't care!

My second attempt was because I'm short one Easter card to send out this week.  This was easy because I used more of the bunnies on steroids paper (per Dixie).

By this time, I had decided that I really like this sketch, since the size of the main image seems to fit so many of my favorite stamps.  I also had just listened to Sandy's Two Things and a Rant and so I grabbed some brown stuff.  Does this card seem brown enough?  What do they really want when they ask for brown cards?????

 My last card (so far!) is for my nephew, who is going to be having a birthday soon.  I doubt if he even knows this blog is in existence, so I'm not really worried.  But, just in case -

A few more weeks and I'll be done

I finally got smart and am making multiples, so that I can get the box filled for Operation Write Home sooner.  I usually have a full one (approx. 90 cards) ready by the last week of each month.  I was so overdue last time.  Can't let that happen again.
